LA MOTTE, Iowa -- Denise (Berthel) Nemmers, 48, of 121 South Main Street, La Motte, died at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 12, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, with the Rev. Michael Tauke officiating. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 13, 1960, in Dubuque, daughter of Donald and Patricia (Monner) Berthel. She married Ric Nemmers on April 21, 1990, at Holy Rosary Church, La Motte. She graduated from Bellevue Marquette High School in 1978.
She worked for Dr. Clyde Overturff, DDS, in Maquoketa since 1978, as a Registered Dental Assistant and Office Manager. Denise also bartended and waitressed for over 20 years in La Motte at The Corner Tap, Mike's Inn and PaPa's Place. She also was a Mary Kay Cosmetic Consultant.
She was a master gardener and landscape designer with a great love for flowers and her many gardens. She also enjoyed creating and designing unique gloves for her family and friends.
She was a member of the Bellevue Golf Club, Thunder Hills Country Club, Holy Rosary Parish, Rosary Society, Choir and a previous member of the La Motte Sunshine Queens 4-H Club.
Surviving are her husband, Ric; parents, Donald and Patricia Berthel; siblings, Diana (Mike) Bonifas, of La Motte, Linda Schuster, of Peosta, Marion (Rob) Theisen, of La Motte, Marcia (Kevin) Ambrosy, of Bellevue, and Leonard (Jenny) Berthel, of Zwingle; her mother-in-law, Kay Nemmers, of La Motte; her aunts; uncles; 17 nieces and nephews; a great-niece; and her faithful cat, Ki Ki.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her father-in-law, Wayne Nemmers.
