LA MOTTE, Iowa -- Stanley G. Nemmers, 74, of La Motte, died at 12:10 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, following a sudden illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, at St. Raphael Cathedral, with Monsignor Wayne Ressler and the Rev. Mark Nemmers officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, La Motte. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.
He was born on Dec. 18, 1935, in La Motte, son of George C. and Mary C. (Ernst) Nemmers. He married Marilee Sturm on April 29, 1958, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
He worked in banking for 46 years, including being office manager at the La Motte Branch. He also worked for the La Motte Telephone Co. and was a member of the La Motte/Key West Knights of Columbus Council.
He was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, bowling, golfing and going out dancing with Marilee, especially at Timmerman's on Saturday nights. He also enjoyed his morning "Board Meetings" at the Circle C with his friend Jim.
Surviving are his wife, Marilee; three children, Lisa (Gary) Schiffer and Lori (Dan) Klein, both of La Motte, and Phil (Rhonda) Nemmers, of Earlham; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Ambrose) Rolling, Ryan Schiffer, Mandy (Eric) Reisner, Lindsey Clewell, Chantel (fiance Jake Dixon) Bonjour, Dustin Bonjour, Danielle Nemmers and Kendra Nemmers; two great-grandchildren, Cade Reisner and Camdyn Reisner; a sister-in-law, Kay Nemmers, of La Motte; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Wayne; and a sister-in-law, Kathleen.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family wishes to thank all of their family and friends and the La Motte Rescue Squad for their quick response and all the kindness they gave to Stanley and his family.
